Tumble Driers

In order to be featured on Topten, tumble dryer models must:

Be A+++ or A++ rated

Have a condensing efficiency rating of A or B

Ecodesign minimum rating

The current minimum energy rating of a condenser tumble dryer that can be placed on the market is the B class. C-class vented models may still be sold.

Best available technology

The most efficient heat pump tumble dryers currently on the market achieve the A+++ class.

Annual energy consumption: the energy consumption, in kWh, per year based on 160 dryig cycles on the standard programme, at of full and partial loads, and also taking into account the standby power consumption

Annual running cost: the annual running cost in electricity for the product based on the quoted annual energy consumption and an electricity cost of 14.05p/kWh.

Capacity: the maximum load capacity of the tumble dryer in kg.

Construction: free-standing or built-in (integrated).

Drying time: the time of the standard drying cycle in minutes.

Energy consumption per cycle: energy consumption of the standard drying cycle in kWh.

Energy Efficiency Index: the basis for the determination of the energy efficiency class. The lower the value, the more efficient the tumble dryer.

Energy label: the energy efficiency class according to the EU Energy Label. The classes range from A+++ (most efficient) to D (least efficient).

Noise level: the noise emissions during the standard cycle in decibels (dB), according to the EU energy label.

Power in use: the power consumption of the product in use, in kW.

Standby power: power consumption of the product in standby mode, in W.
